In response to Paul Savin’s letter (online April 22, “Herald should stop running COVID-19 statistics”), I read the COVID-19 statistics on The Durango Herald home page daily. The statistics remind me that the virus is not gone and we need to continue to be vigilant in our fight against it.
In viewing our statistics in relation to other areas, I can clearly see the effect that reduced vigilance has on those communities and no matter how tired of the masks and social distancing we are, we cannot let up in our fight against COVID-19. The virus is very opportunistic and will seize any openings to grow that we give it.
I hope the Herald will continue to keep us aware that this is real, it is dangerous, and it can be defeated, but only if we don’t walk off the battlefield halfway through the battle.
