The Ignacio Volleycats showed why they're contenders last weekend.

The Bobcats played their National Breast Cancer Awareness Month match on Friday, which was also part of Homecoming week.

The 'Cats shocked the then-#10 (CHSAANow.com Class 1A poll, Oct. 15) Dove Creek Bulldogs 20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 27-25, 15-12, then ended the weekend sweeping Norwood 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 the next afternoon on Senior/Parent Appreciation Day. Ignacio saluted seniors Kiana Valdez, Amethyst Egger-Morris, Reyna Cruz, Rosaleigh Concepcion, Heather Kerrigan, Fernanda Tavares, Izabella Howe, Divine Windy Boy, Briana Duran and Samara O'John. On Tuesday, 2A Ignacio played up against 3A Cortez, losing 25-11, 25-16, 25-11.

Up next, Ignacio will compete at the Oct. 26-27 Rye Invitational. Known opponents will be the hosting Thunderbolts, up a spot to #6 in the Oct. 22 CHSAANow.com 2A poll, on the first night, plus 2A Sanford (well over .500 this season) and 3A Trinidad the next day.
