Here is my pet peeve. In this economy, I think we have to be very discerning. As a Colorado resident for more than 30 years, I have seen people come with agendas clothed as being "environmentally friendly; holistic; supportive of open communication and personal growth" come our way. These agendas also have a price tag.
We Colorado residents seem to think we need the growth these agendas bring. I have seen it happen locally too. Nonlocals come in, try to sell us bigger and better products, buy a say in the local community and the price is our way of life. Our independent minds, respect for our environment and support for our community is the price we have paid. Many locals cannot afford to live here because of our "progressive" growth.
Come on Durango, wake up! Be careful of self-centered, self-righteous agendas and start supporting our local values.
