I would like to correct information from the recent story about the football coach and child abuse (Herald, March 6). The story reported that the "child's teacher notified authorities of the child's injury, which is common practice in such situations." In fact, child care providers/teachers are mandated reporters and, as such, by law, must report any suspicion of child abuse.
I think the community needs to understand the distinction between reporting suspected child abuse as "common practice" when in fact, it is the law.
