As a co-chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters' 2009 Bowl for Kids' Sake fundraiser and the person who chose April 4 as the date for this year's event, I want to apologize to those who can't bowl with us because of Spring Break.
If that's the case for you, let me give you another option for participating in this worthwhile event. You may have heard this term before, but this year it's better than ever: "Phantom Bowl." Yes, we have people who can't bowl for one reason or another but still want to help us reach our goal. In a Phantom Bowl, a person collects donations but doesn't bowl. This year it will all be done online. After registering online, you send out e-mails to family and friends next door or around the world. Tell them you're participating in this very important Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser and ask for their support by way of a tax-deductible donation. It's quick and easy. All donors will receive a personal thank you from our office.
We still want and need bowlers to join us at Rolling Thunder Lanes in Ignacio on April 4, but if that's impossible for you, this is the next best thing.
Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with measurable impact. All money raised during our Bowl for Kids' Sake campaign will go toward helping us reach out to more children in Southwest Colorado who could benefit from having a caring, responsible adult mentor in their lives. Last year, we matched 234 children to mentors who serve as friends and positive role models.
