Sunshine Gardens announces new staff
Sunshine Gardens announces that Leigh Parker has been named administrator. Before Sunshine Gardens, Parker was a registered respiratory therapist and has worked many years in health-care administration. She graduated from the University of Nevada with a degree in business and science.
Sunshine Gardens also welcomes Ann Stook to the position of compliance officer and team building coordinator. Stook has her Master of Business Administration from the University of Greenwich and diplomas in therapeutic counseling and hypnotherapy. Before Sunshine Gardens, she owned a computer consulting business in Europe and has worked in nonprofit and medical disciplines.
Sunshine Gardens also has promoted Camilla Gallegos to administrative assistant. After attending college at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., Gallegos worked as a caregiver for Sunshine Gardens for the last three years.

First National Bank announces new hire
First National Bank of Durango announces that Nicole Neville was hired Sept. 27 and works full-time at the reception desk/safe deposit.
Neville relocated to Durango four months ago from Albuquerque. She concurrently works for Vector Marketing. She also will be getting married in November.
Green Business Roundtable to meet
The Green Business Roundtable will meet at noon Oct. 13 at the Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.
The featured topic will be Profitability, Sustainability and Philanthropy; they all go together to create Community by guest speakers Bill Carver and Mike Hurst of Carver Brewing Co.

Region 9 offers rural micro loans
The Region 9 Economic Development District has been approved to receive $300,000 in business loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The Rural Micro Entrepreneur Assistance Program supports the development and ongoing success of rural microentrepreneurs and microenterprises with loans of $50,000 or less. Microentrepreneurs are owners/operator, or prospective owners /operators, of a business who are unable to obtain training, technical assistance or credit and are located in a rural area. A microenterprise is a sole proprietorship or business in a rural area, with no more than 10 full-time employees.
There is also as much as $75,000 in grant funding for entrepreneurs. The grants are in the form of technical assistance, and they can be used to prepare for self-employment, improve the state of an existing rural business and increase the technical capacity and business expertise.

Law firm ranked as top in Indian law
The Durango law firm Maynes, Bradford, Shipps & Sheftel has been designated by Best ranking service as one of the top national law firms in the Native American practice area.
The list of law firms was published in the October 2010 issue of U.S. News & World Report. Top national rankings were the result of nationwide surveys of law firms, clients and organizations.
The current partners are: Thomas H. Shipps, Patricia A. Hall, Sam W. Maynes, Barry Spear and Steven Boos. Janice C. Sheftel, who retired as a partner, remains affiliated with the firm on an of counsel basis.
The Maynes firm has gained national attention for its long service as general legal counsel for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. In that capacity, the firm has assisted in litigation, jurisdictional matters, intergovernmental relations and legislation, natural resources and environmental law, gaming, health care, 638 contracting, and business and finance matters.
The firm also has been instrumental in training lawyers now serving in the tribes Legal Services Department.
Realty Executives announces new hire
Realty Executives of Durango announces that John Andrews joined the business Oct. 1.
Andrews, a 40-year veteran of the real estate industry, has been a broker associate in Durango for the last 17 years. During this time, he has closed on more than $36 million in residential and commercial sales including more than 110 residential properties. He will be located in the Realty Executives office at the Main Mall, 835 Main Ave., Suite 217.
