Strater Hotel adds Energy Star rating

The Strater Hotel announces that it will begin adding the Energy Star rating, the national metric for evaluating building energy efficiency, to its property.

Energy Star-labeled hotels meet energy-efficiency performance levels. As a member of the Historic Hotels of America, the Strater is the only member hotel to achieve this rating of energy efficiency. Energy-efficient upgrades include changing light bulbs to low wattage compact fluorescent bulbs, using a large hot-water storage tank to preheat water and changing out windows for ones with increased insulation value. Another first includes the use of heated windows in the Strater’s restaurant, The Mahogany Grille.

First National Bank announces new hires

First National Bank of Durango announces the addition of Connie James and Amber Tracy to its team.

James started Aug. 2 and is working on the teller line at the main office. She came to Colorado from Montana and moved to Durango after living in Granby. James previously worked for Grand Mountain Bank in Granby.

Tracy returned to the bank Aug. 2 and is working as a teller at the main office. She worked for the bank in 2007 and has been completing her degree in anthropology at Fort Lewis College and working at Animas Trading Co.

Alley Cuts salon moves to new location

Kelly Lee, owner of Alley Cuts Hair Salon, announces she has moved to a new location inside the “Durango Salons and Suites,” the green building next to KFC, at 2929 Main Ave. on the ground level, Suite A-2. The salon was located at 271 East College Drive.

Lee moved to Durango from Denver in 1996 and opened Alley Cuts in 1999. She has 33 years of experience in all types of haircuts and lengths, with a focus on hair color, including: highlights, lowlights, gray coverage, conditioning gray blending, conditioning semi-permanent color, men’s natural color, creative color design, body waves, styles for men with thinning hair, mustache and beard trimming, and wig and hairpiece cutting and styling.

She has 10 years of experience working with women suffering from medically induced hair loss and offers discounts for those who need financial aid with medical ailments resulting in hair loss. Lee can special order any hair replacement product.

Other services she performs include women’s facial waxing, men’s outer ear waxing, men’s toupees, gentle chemical hair straightening, restructuring perms, cornrows, braiding and starting dreadlocks.
