The proposed artificial turf for the Durango High School football field is a poor idea not only in thought, but also in use of dollars, in my opinion. Raising a huge amount of money for turf in these troubled times is silly.
My son played football for four years at DHS. He played on the turf at Fort Lewis and at the new stadium coached by Brian Hester and Steve Thyfault.
I really don't care what kind of turf Grand Junction has on its field. The question is dollars and sense.
Surely, there are other needs the activity director can fund for the teams. Does every kid have the money for the required shoes and cleats? Are the uniforms and equipment in such top shape that new money is not needed? Has the Booster Club quit raising money for teams? Is there enough fuel and food money to pay for the out-of-town games? People are losing their jobs and houses in Durango. Money is tight - please rethink this idea.
